I Was Told

I Was Told

I know my life used to be a textbook.
People said this was right and that was wrong,
that there was good and here was bad-
But I just I didn’t know what I was supposed to do.

When I was four, They told me to put a bow in my hand
And of course that’s what I did.
I mean, I guess it felt right for a while
To read black spiders on the pages and draw perpendicular lines-
But as my fingers bled churning storms at one-sixteenth-note-equals-92-beats-per-second,
I realized then that I was only told.

When I was six, They told me to be like the best
And so I looked to my only sister.
I didn’t notice it for many years,
How They made us into the same person-
But when started to hate dressing the same talking the same learning the same being the VERY same
I found out myself that I was only doing as I was told.

When I was ten, They told me to be a swimmer
And so I did what I had to do.
I thought it was okay ‘cause even my mom wanted me to;
but though I loved swirling tsunamis and torpedoing through the deep,
I grew tired of cement tired of pyramids tired of parties for one...
And knew this wasn’t going to be me.

When I was thirteen, I put down my bow,
picked a new shirt,
And put away the wings that flew me across the water.
I wanted to know how to drop to the ceiling and jump up to the floor-
But really, I just didn't like the girl with brown eyes but dark caverns,
a huge smile but no words.

Oh, I never liked being told-

And now, at fourteen,
I know that nothing I do is written in a book.

I Really Could Care Less

I am a woman but I am not one’s maid
I really could care less
I am tried of all the judgement.
Just because I don’t want to stay home and clean doesn’t mean I am not a woman
I really could care less
Your old fashioned thinking is clouding your judgement.

Wake up.
Wake the hell up!
Do you really think I care!
I know you’re my mother but I am a feminist.

You might not like what I do
but I really don’t care
because I am no one’s maid
I don’t listen to all the judgement going around because
if I am treated as an equal then all your bullshit judgement can go out the door
because I don’t care if you think I need to clean more

The only thing I fight for is Feminism
Shout out to all the women out there fighting everyday for equality.
Because everything else I really could care less about
I ain’t serving a guy just because he is a small minded person
I ain’t sticking up to no asshole who thinks we’re in the 1950’s
I really could care less

all I care about is my right
so shout out too all these gals out there keep
fighting  against all these small minded men

Sorry mama I got to do what I think is right
I really could care less
If you think this is wrong because it ain’t

Mama I know I am not perfect but
The right thing is
To Fight for gals out there
Who gotta stick up against all this judgement of
You're not good enough
You need to clean more

I really could care less
If you think this is wrong
because it ain’t
I know what the right thing is
so I really could care less.

It Was a Long Time Ago...

It Was a Long Time Ago...
It was a little bit back in time
A major falling point in my life.
It was during school in 2nd grade, I was sent outside to cool off because I
did something in class.Then while
Outside I sat down on a bench. I got
a rock and wanted to throw it on
the roof for some dumb reason.
But that's when it happened, my life changed forever in just a few seconds of time. I threw the rock at the roof, but I missed. The rock slammed into the window and broke it. The glass flew threw the air and hit students, and that
is when I knew everything had
Changed. It felt like time slowed
Down as I slowly watched the glass shatter everywhere. Then I was sent to the principal's office crying and sad about what I have done, but the worst part was when I saw my mom crying. I knew what I had did was accident, but just  the guilt of making her feel like she did hurt me inside and I couldn’t ever forgive myself for awhile. But like I said, it was a long time ago, and it doesn’t really matter any more.

Love

Sometimes love runs out
of battery, and it gets broken. When
you are in love you see
everything bright just like a light bulb
in a dark room. Love is loud.
It screams at you
when you are close
to the one you love,
like loudspeakers, when
you are watching a
basketball game.
Comprehending Love is like
changing channels in a language
you perhaps don't understand.
Love is beautiful, it has many
qualities it makes
you look things from another perspective,
it entertains you,
just like watching “Stranger Things”
on Netflix.
But the most important thing
is that love is company,

It never never leaves you alone. Image result for love images background images

The Ride of a Lifetime

The Ride of a Lifetime

Trains are like love, as they don’t stop until their destination

Trains are the key to transportation

When you’re feeling down and blue, get on a train

Go on a ride and take in a beautiful scenery

You don’t have to worry about driving, just enjoy the experience

They are cheap, and never have traffic issues

Sometimes there may be delays

But they always keep going

They can take you to your loved ones

Or bring them to you

And they don’t stop easily once they get on a roll

Complicatedly simple

So many unique aspects in trains

Everyone knows what the caboose is

That’s common train terminology

But trains are much more than that

They are made of multiple parts that make it an incredible whole

Like love, trains can take you to places in life that you never thought you’d be able to reach

Places that you thought never existed

And trains can take you to breathtaking places as well

All you have to do is get aboard

And it will have an everlasting effect on your life

No stress, no issues, no worries

Just a nice, peaceful train ride

A train ride that lasts a lifetime, like love

Our Time

Our Time

11/8 became the new 9/11
The night that shook America awake

Racism won.
Sexism won.
Misogyny won.
Homophobia won.
Inequality won.

This is a country that has been through
thick and thin
America’s mother figures fought for what was right
And what they earned
What we live for
What they had hoped for
Could be taken away
in a matter of seconds

Just about now
We have meaningfully marched over malicious comments, actions, ideas
Made about our rights

One of the very things
Women get ticked off about
Is how men think they know
Women more than they know themselves

Our reproductive health is our business
We aren’t things like a door knob
To grab, twist around, and push
Or a lollipop, you can suck the life out of
We can handle our own choices
We are not as weak as you might think

We hold the privilege to choose
who we love
We work long, hard hours
And deserve the amount of money
That is equal to our amount of effort
We must welcome immigrants who wish to seek new, better lives; a fresh start
It is wrong to let stone, concrete walls to complete the job for us

As citizens
It is our duty to take action
Grab it by its neck
And drag it with us
For the next four years

11/8 is the new 9/11
But for people like me
My mother, my grandmother,
My aunts, and cousins
Or people like your mothers,
Your grandmothers
Your aunts, your cousins

Our new president has
targeted women like us
Just imagine what he can undo next?
Your buttons? Your rights?
This chaotic future is being handed
to us on a silver platter

You call it making America great again?
I call it making America weaker,
Repeating history, losing allies,
And developing a place more dangerous than a war zone

Susan B. Anthony, Rosa Parks, Eleanor Roosevelt, Elizabeth Stanton
Sound familiar?
The list goes on like the digits of pi
The torch is being passed onto our generation

Now
It’s our time to fight wars
Forcing our feet to move until they give up
Allowing our tears to be filled with pride
Our cries calmed from cheers and chants
We have voices that deserve to be heard a thousand miles
And all the way to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave
