I am that guy
I am that guy
The one that smiles and laughs
What seems to be all the time
Dimples on cheeks
Laughing hysterically
Maniacally
In the face of all sadness
Wrong ideas in their heads
But I’m laughing at that scene
From The Incredibles
watched
On my living room couch
With a bowl of blueberries that fall
Out of the hands of my 10 year old self
Falling onto the floor
Cracking up
Moments speak to me
And mouth laughs
Brain doesn’t
Abs sore
Hands on stomach
Crouching over
Walkin’ ‘round
Like I’m coughing
Without any purpose
Except to be
Laughing
The feeling of candy
And cloudless skies
And fuzzy boots
Blocking out things
that you don’t wanna hear
Like a child riding a tricycle
I am that guy
The one that laughs
In the face of despair

I love how you incorporated lots of imagery and details, yet also managed to still convey a relatable message and the feelings associated with it.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the repetition at the beginning: it seems to open up the poem well.
ReplyDeleteThe poem spreads joy through explaining to people that they should just laugh just because, and that's very relatable.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this poem. You clearly and smoothly use poetic devices in a reasonable way, and you make the poem full of life and makes you able to relate to stuff like this.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the figurative language, and repetition throughout the poem.
