A soft nod or hello

while walking down the hallway

from that cute boy in your chemistry class

But, love is not

Love is not an ultimatum

Choosing between her and me

Choosing between a life changing job or the family business

Love is not slamming doors

Over misunderstood words

Or meaningless lies

Love is not showing up over pity

Used as your form of absolution

Love is not fake apologies

Because you can’t admit you made the mistake

Or you refuse to talk it out

Love is not resentment

Of the ones who live down the hall

Love is not video chats, Snapchat stories

Or Instagram posts

Love is not a brand

Or a price tag

Strutted around the halls

Judged on the value of the clothing instead of value of the person

But love,

Love is choosing the highest good for the other person
